English
At Fonthill Primary Academy, English is at the heart of everything we do. It underpins all areas of the curriculum and is central to helping our children communicate, think and succeed.
We place a strong emphasis on vocabulary development, which is explicitly taught across all CUSP lessons. This ensures that pupils build the language they need to understand their learning and express their ideas with confidence.
Our curriculum is built around a rich literature spine, exposing children to a wide range of high-quality texts that inspire a love of reading and support their development as writers. This is complemented by our well-stocked library, which is carefully curated to reflect the interests and backgrounds of our school community.
We are committed to nurturing a genuine love of reading. Pupils are supported through daily reading opportunities, engagement with high-quality texts and the support of reading volunteers, who play an important role in developing confidence and fluency.
Pupil voice is central to our approach. Children actively shape the texts available in our library, helping to ensure it remains relevant, inclusive and engaging. We further enrich our English offer through opportunities such as author visits, which inspire pupils and bring reading and writing to life.
Through our English curriculum, we aim to develop confident, articulate and enthusiastic readers and writers who are ready to succeed both in school and beyond.
